Bruce first started his football career in 1975 playing junior football at the age of 8 and won seven club best and fairest and two league best and fairest. During that year he played in a premiership team, won the Best First Year player award and also played in U18 Teal cup carnival in Darwin for WA and again made the All Australian team. His footballing talent had caught the eye of the Melbourne Football Club and in 1984 when only 17 moved to Melbourne to play U19s for the Demons and played in the U18 Teal cup carnival in Sydney for Victoria.

From 1985 to 1987 Bruce played U19's and Reserve football for Melbourne FC and in 1988 retired from playing due to excessive hamstring injuries.

In 2004 his involvement with football began again when his son started playing football at Fitzroy Junior Football Club (FJFC) in U10's. During 2005 to 2008 Bruce held various roles on the FJFC committee. It wasn’t long until he became a coach, achieving Level 1 coaching accreditation and between 2006 – 2010 coached U11, U12, U13, U14 and U15.

In 2008 Bruce first joined the club when he coached our U19 North 2 side. Late in April the Board was delighted to approve the appointment of Bruce as the Fitzroy U19 Premier Coach. Bruce said recently that, “I am very appreciative and excited about the opportunity I have been given”.

On Saturday 30 April, Bruce coached the U19s to their first win of the season over University Blacks. This was the first home game at Brunswick Street Oval and it was an opportunity to unveil the 2010 Premiership flag (pictured above).

The Board would like to extend its thanks and deep appreciation to Paul Diacogioris and Anthony Corponi who are the co-coaches of our Reserves team. For approximately 6 weeks both Paul and Anthony stepped in to help the U19s taking training sessions, coaching practice matches and start of this season, splitting their time between the U19s and Reserves.
