U/19 2010 Premiership TeamCongratulations to our Under 19 (1)s who took out the U.19 North (1) Grand Final in sensational style at St. Bernard's Oval Essendon on Saturday the 11th September.

From the official VAFA write up in the Amateur Footballer:

"Äll season long,"Werribee showed themselves to be a tough, formidable outfit. So much so that, despite being seriously challenged on occasions, the Tigers went through the home-and-away rounds undefeated. Fitzroy were not nearly as impressive, twice dropping games at Old Carey, once at St.Bernards and three times against Werribee. For myself and most neutral observers, all roads appeared to be leading west. But the second-semi final result threw the season on its head, and from that day onward the Roys grew in the belief that they could again tame the Tigers on the big day. And so it came to pass.

On the wide expanse of St.Bernard's, Fitzroy hit the ground running, booting 4.7 in the first term with the Bees only managing one major. In what has been a somewhat familiar story for the Roys, there were plenty who were concerned that inaccurate kicking may again come back to haunt them, particularly when Werribee worked their way back into the contest prior to half time. But Fitzroy, led by Cheyne Evans, Michael Cussen and Nathan Jumeau, hung tough in the second half, withstanding a Werribee onslaught which included their own bout of inaccuracy: 4.7 alone in the final quarter. The Roys triumphed by 16 points, capping a magnificent season, and proving that the finals and the home-and-away season are two entirely different beasts."
