Fitzroy raises money for Friedreich Ataxia Research
1.00 pm Sunday 13th February 2011
Thirteen players together with the coaching staff – Tim, Brett and Michael, President Joan Eddy, Director Anita Roper and supporter Tom participated in the inaugural 'Go The Tan VAFA Cup' on the last Saturday morning (12th February).
Go The Tan is a 3.8 km sprint, jog or walk around the tan to raise money for the Fredreich Ataxia Research Association. Fredreich Ataxia (FA) is a neurological, degenerative disease that affects young children and teenagers, initially causing inco-ordination, slurred speech and difficulty walking. Progressively it causes incapacitation and eventually cardiac failure, leading to shorter life expectancy for sufferers.
Fitzroy Football Club’s participation in the Run raised almost $500 for the Fredreich Ataxia Research Association.
Congratulations to Nick Reinalda who ran our fastest time of 13.57 minutes.
Congratulations also to South Melbourne who won the VAFA Cup.
Fitzroy stalwart, Peter Hille (pictured left) also led a team from the Rotary Club of Fitzroy.
