The Club mourns the passing of one of our oldest members, Charles Whittingslow, who died peacefully last Saturday aged 95.
The youngest of nine children, Charles Ernest Whittingslow, was born on the 3rd February 1916 to Joseph & Jesse Whittingslow of Northcote. He attended Fairfield State School and worked in the boot trade until his retirement at age 65. He was an avid cyclist and cricketer. He enlisted in the Australian Army on 23rd August 1940 and was deployed to Darwin where he faced the Japanese bombing raids. He was discharged from the army with the rank of Lance Corporal on 26th November 1945.
Charles was a long time member of the Club and was at the Junction Oval to witness our last VFL Premiership in 1944. He maintained his Fitzroy membership to the end and enjoyed going back to the Brunswick Street Oval on a Saturday afternoon to support the young Fitzroy players, now in the VAFA.
Our deepest sympathy to Carol, Brenda and family.
