The game began well for OM's with a past players luncheon and a goal to the Panthers in the first 30 seconds to Michael Basile.

From there though, it was OM's missing opportunities, back up ruckman Mic Kalviskes being sent from the filed for 15 minutes, and Dave Kitto hurting his shoulder to allow the Reds to be within three goals at the long break.

This was reflected in the final scoring shots tally of 20 to 15 in OM's favour.

A seven goal to two third quarter by Fitzroy broke the match as OM's looked sluggish.

Panthers coach Peter Russo moved Basile into attack at three-quarter time and he kicked 2.2 to arrest the lead by two points.
