Bunton Memorial

Scot Palmer , Herald Sun Sunday 31st March 2002

"There are those in footy who remember the deeds of Haydn Bunton and rate him above even Gary Ablett or Wayne Carey. The triple Brownlow and Sandover medalist, who also made a mark in SA, has been overlooked for some reason when tributes have been handed out. That is why the Fitzroy loyalists have hatched a plan to try to raise enough in contributions to have a bronze statue sculpted of the Lion they rate as the 'Bradman of footy'. Based on our photo, the statue will find a home at the charming Brunswick St. Oval where locals still play. Fitzroy has put the idea to its former master, the AFL, and was heartened by the response."
