Legend Haydn immortalised in rock

Scot Palmer , Herald Sun Sunday 29th June 2003

"It has taken 49 years since his road death for football's equivalent to Bradman, Haydn Bunton to be launched as our newest country rock legend. Before that the sleek Haydn was Fitzroy's matinee idol, winning three Brownlow Medals before three Sandover medals in WA. Bunton has had his life put to a song on a soon-to-be-released CD called the Ballad of Haydn Bunton. It will be heard first by several old Lions at Haskin's Hotel, Rae St. North Fitzroy, close to Brunswick St Oval on July 9. Singers Ken Marshall and Peter Bell have even incorporated Bunton's astute awareness of indigenous problems and subsequent friendship with the club's Aboriginal champion, Doug Nicholls, into their upbeat rendition which might even join Up There Cazaly on the footy charts."
