Move to Heal Lions' Rift Scot

"Barnstorming Brisbane has agreed to embrace a little more of the Lions' Victorian history, which may ensure a sentimental sell-out game against Collingwood on Foundation Jumper Day, at the MCG on August 9. The Club will don their original strips (minus the lace up front for safety reasons) for the Round 19 Match and the Lions have the chance to try to appease Fitzroy Followers still hurt by the Brisbane takeover of the proud, old inner Melbourne club, but looking for a reconciliation. The Footy pioneers commemoration match prompted the Amateur Fitzroy Reds FC to pluck up the nerve to propose that its match against West Brunswick be played as a curtain raiser. You see, the Brunswick St Oval Reds wear the 1996 Fitzroy jersey and West Brunswick the famous Collingwood Stripes. Surely it is too good an opportunity to help the healing process to go begging. I'm told the Magpies will wear a round neck thin black and white striped guernsey, like the one worn by club great Bill Proudfoot...while the Lions strip will be maroon with yellow yolk/shoulder saddle." |
