Haydn Bunton

1931, 1932 and 1935 Brownlow Medalist

Haydn Bunton played 119 games for Fitzroy from 1931 to 1937 and 1942. He kicked 209 goals in his career and led the Fitzroy goalkicking in 1936 and 1937. He won the Brownlow Medal in his first season and repeated the triumph in 1932 and 1935. He coached Fitzroy in 1936 and captained the club in part of 1932 and 1936-1937. From the available records, he won the Fitzroy best and fairest award in 1934 and 1935. He is considered possibly the best footballer of all time and was accorded AFL Legend status in the Hall of Fame. He was also named in the AFL Team of the Century. He transferred to Subiaco in W.A. and won three Sandover Medals. He later played for Port Adelaide, coached North Adelaide and even umpired the game. His son Haydn Bunton junior was a leading player and coach in W.A. and S.A.
