FITZROY JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB

Visit the Fitzroy Juniors website at www.fitzroyjuniorfc.com.au for all the latest details.

The Fitzroy Junior Football Club was created in 1993. Before its creation the Fitzroy Football Club had been holding football clinics at the Edinburgh Gardens back oval.

As a result of these clinics a group of parents got together and discussed the formation of a junior football team. This first meeting was held at the Fitzroy Football Club Hotel in Charles Street.

At the first meeting were Charlie Murgia, Kent Middleton, John Hort and Anne Horrigan-Dixon and Jamie Doughney. As a result of this meeting, the Fitzroy Football Club donated a set of jumpers, the Club used the oval at the back of the Edinburgh gardens, and they joined the Hawthorn District Junior Football Club League.

This was the beginning of the Fitzroy Junior Football Club. The original team in 1993 was in the Under 11 age group although only one child was in that age group. Some were under 10 but most were under 9.

In their first season the team only kicked 1 goal 4 behinds for the whole season! The Club has progressed from those humble beginnings to being a co-tenant with the Fitzroy Reds at the Brunswick Street ground.

It now fields some fourteen teams between the U10 and U17 age groups and expects a further growth in numbers next season.
