Board expands as President returned for 10th season

19-Dec-2018

Fitzroy President, Joan Eddy, has been returned for her 10th year at the helm of Fitzroy Football Club after the 134th AGM of the Fitzroy Football Club (incorporating the Fitzroy Reds).

In front of 60 plus members a very strong turnout at an AGM the club wrapped up a very successful season, announcing a healthy profit; a significant turnaround from this time last year.

Joan and Treasurer, Michael Smale, outlined the major achievements for the year, including the success of a number of funding bids driven by Gabrielle Murphy.

For more details of the Clubs achievements on and off field, you can read the Presidents report for 2018.

Four new Directors joined the board; Rob Olney, David Morden, Michael Pickering and David Leydon (pictured with Joan Eddy). Their portfolios are detailed below.

Kate Nolan was re-elected to the Board and is the Vice President for 2019, with Sharon Torney continuing as Club Secretary and Michael Smale as Treasurer. Gabrielle Murphy continues in her role as Director.

Congratulations one and all and thank you to Kevin Sharp, who stepped down as Director Sponsorship, having worked hard to expand the relationship with the ACU and made a significant contribution to the way the club manages its relationships with its sponsors over the past few seasons.

Joan Eddy presented Company Secretary, Bill Atherton, with the final 2018 premiership medallion for the power of work he does behind the scenes (and has done for the past 23 years) ensuing the club still exists and goes from strength to strength.

Marking 10 years since the merger

Speaking after the presentation, Bill reminded the Fitzroy faithful of the 10th anniversary of the merger of the Fitzroy Football Club and the Fitzroy Reds (on December 8), and the importance it played in keeping the name and the history of the club alive.

Bill and his wife, Deb, are pictured holding a copy of the story of the re-emergence of Fitzroy, written by Damian Barrett in the Herald Sun way back in 2008, with the photo featuring one very fresh-faced Tom Cheshire.
