Amateur sides bid to play at MCG

" The Victorian Amateur Football Association executive will decide next Monday whether a D2 section match will be played as a curtain-raiser to the Collingwood and Brisbane Lions match at the MCG on August 9.

Collingwood, the Lions and the AFL have agreed to the curtain-raiser between Fitzroy Reds, who wear Fitzroy guernseys, and West Brunswick, which wears black and white stripes.

The Amateurs' executive is concerned about setting a precedent by changing the draw during the season. All clubs are given the chance before the season to submit schedule requests.

For the curtain-raiser to go ahead, rounds 15 and 17 in D2 section would have to be swapped. Fitzroy Reds have been asked to submit written support from the nine opposition presidents backing its proposal. All presidents have agreed verbally.

On Saturday, the Reds held second position on the ladder after defeating fierce rival Bentleigh by 41 points. Full-back Matt Cairns was among the best for the Reds. West Brunswick is in third position after defeating Williamstown CYMS by 30 points.
