VINTAGE REDS

Jordan Chong, Herald Sun, Monday 6th June 2005

"Fitzroy Reds enjoyed a perfect weekend with all five teams in the Amateurs victorious. The seniors in D1 section crushed Yarra Valley Old Boys by 99 points, while the Reserves handed their Yarra opponents a 73 point thrashing. The closest result was in under 19 section red, where Fitzroy accounted for Kew by three points, 15.18 108 to 15.15.105.

Fitzroy's representatives in Club 18 section two and section three divisions were also too good, winning by 35 and 48 points respectively.

Seniors coach, Graham Burgen said the club was delighted with the weekend's results. "It's a huge effort by the Club to put 130-140 players on the field every week but to think that they are successful …….it's a huge achievement," Burgen said. "We've got good depth at the football club. We've only had five teams this year (and) it's taken us until round 8 before we could pull off a result where all five sides won."

The Reds who are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2005, had only two teams in 2001. All five teams are in contention for the finals. "
