Bernie Quinlan played in 189 games for Fitzroy between 1978 and 1986. He was already an established star when he came to Fitzroy after 178 games for Footscray. However, he played his best football with the Lions kicking 576 goals. This is the second highest total by a Fitzroy player. He played in the 1978 Night Premiership team and nine finals games for 29 goals. This is second only to Jim Freake. He played three times for Victoria while at Fitzroy. He shared the 1981 Brownlow Medal with Barry Round. In 1983 he was moved permanently to full forward and he prospered kicking a club record 116 goals to win the Coleman Medal. He repeated the feat the next year kicking 105 goals. He led the club goalkicking five times from 1981 to 1985. He coached Fitzroy in 1995.
