W (Chick) Smallhorn

1933 Brownlow Medalist

Wilfred (Chicken) Smallhorn played 150 games for Fitzroy between 1930 and 1940. He won the 1933 Brownlow Medal and played with two other medallists in Haydn Bunton and Dennis Ryan. He was awarded a total of 100 Brownlow Medal votes in his career. He kicked 31 goals and played seven times for Victoria. He played on the wing. He was given his unusual nickname by relatives when he was a child saying, ‘Isn’t he such a little chicken?’
