Fitzroy Football Club: Great football, Great community, Great culture.

ANOTHER NOD TO A FITZROY LEGEND

04-Aug-2023

Join us in congratulating our past president Joan Eddy who has again been recognised by the Victorian Amateur Football Association for her exemplary leadership in community football and the development of women's football in particular.

The Premier Reserve Women’s Best on Ground Medal will now be named the Joan Eddy Medal in recognition of Joan's outstanding long-term service to the Fitzroy Football Club and the VAFA.

For over 20 years, Joan Eddy has given unstintingly of her time as a volunteer administrator to community football. She started her journey as Coordinator of the Fitzroy-Auskick program for two years then as team manager for eight years at the Fitzroy Junior Football Club, before moving to the position of FJFC Secretary for another six.

When son Tom Cheshire graduated to the FFC seniors as an Under 19, Joan became a team manager for another two years, elected FFC Vice-President in 2009, and was Fitzroy Football Club president from 2010 to 2022.

Joan was named the City of Yarra's Community Sportswoman of the Year in 2018, received the VAFA Certificate of Merit in 2019 and in that same year was named the AFL Football Woman of the Year Award (Community Category).

Congratulations Joan, we couldn't think of anyone more deserving of the recognition you have received.

True Fitzroy legend!
