The inaugural best and fairest for the Men’s Thirds Maroons will be honoured with the Nick Auden Perpetual Trophy.

Nick Auden was a champion of the Fitzroy Reds across all grades, including the early days of the Club XVIII – the precursor of the Thirds.

Nick died in 2013 after coordinating the 'Save Locky's Dad' global campaign to enable access to life saving experimental drugs to combat melanoma. Tragically access was not provided in time to help Nick, but the campaign he started was ultimately successful in saving many others.

Teammate and former Reds President Benjy Lee said Nick always played his role for the club with passion and diligence whether he was in the Seniors, Reserves and later in his career, in the 'Clubbies'.

“Everyone felt taller with Nick by your side. His courage and commitment to each and every contest on the field was infectious,” Benjy says.

“He was a committed clubman, volunteering to run the boundary when needed, or reviewing the club's strategic plan with his management consulting hat on.”

His loving wife Amy will present the Nick Auden Perpetual Trophy at the Redlow on September 24. 

We trust this recognition will be a proud moment for Amy and her three children: Lachlan, Hayley and Evan.

Nick's legacy is also honoured through Monash University's annual Nicholas Auden International Study Scholarship, which assists outstanding Bachelor of Laws students to undertake international pathway programs.
