After four seasons, women’s senior coach Nathan Jumeau has made the difficult decision to stand down at season’s end.
After a four-point win last week, the Senior Women remain in the hunt for finals with four rounds to play.
Nathan, a Fitzroy premiership player and Life Member, has overseen the expansion of women's footy at the club, helping to make Fitzroy a destination for women wanting to play at the highest levels of the ammos.
“It’s been great to give back to a club that has given me so much,” Nathan says.
“I got to coach some friends and many more – some for a lot less than I would have liked to – and seen so many young players turn into amazing footballers.”
Nathan says it is the right time to take a break and find a new challenge.
President David Leydon credits Nathan as an outstanding leader of Fitzroy’s Women's program over the last six years, after beginning as an assistant coach.
“He's a legend of our club, and we will love him forever,’’ Leydon says.
“He has created a wonderful atmosphere and culture for our women's teams.”
The president said Nathan has been instrumental in forging strong ties with the Fitzroy Junior Football Club to ensure a smooth and welcoming pathway for young women to play their senior football at Fitzroy.
“For a whole generation of players, Nathan has become a coach, a mentor, and a friend everyone loves and respects for all his hard work and determination to further the cause of women's football at Fitzroy.”
“On behalf of the Board, the players and the supporters of our club I want to thank Nathan for his incredible work to ensure the growth and long-term sustainability of our women's program and wish him every success for whatever comes next in his football life.”
