We really did hope to have some news this week Roys fans
after the VAFA Board met on Monday.
The statement released from the VAFA Board advised that
unfortunately, we're still not in a position to make a
call on Season 2020. The VAFA reiterated the
potential start dates of either July 25 or August
1, with a view to returning to contact training on July
13 and competition.
"The [VAFA] Board wish to advise that they have decided that until AFL Return to Play (RTP) protocols are finalised and state government announcements about the ‘Return to Contact Training’ and permissible competition dates are confirmed – no decision can be made about the VAFA competition for the 2020 season proceeding.
The Board will meet on or about 6th July to determine whether to proceed with a 2020 season."
The FFC Board pushed back the June meeting to allow for items
to be addressed after the VAFA Board met on Monday, but
will still meet on Monday June 29 to continue to work through
all the different scenarios for our Club this season.
We can't thank our players, coaches, sponsors, volunteers
and members enough for the patience and support during
this time of no news and seemingly endless waiting.
While it might seem frustrating to navigate all these
conditions, we know it's worth the work to continue
to do what we do.
Every training session we see the smiles on players faces,
even on the freezing cold nights, even last night
in the rain, even when the ball goes over the fence and
it has to be run around half the ground back to the sanitising
station. We know what footy, and our Club means, so we're
going to do our best to bring as much of Fitzroy FC, in
the safest way possible, to our people.
We'll update you all again after the next VAFA Board meeting
on July 6.
Stay safe and well.
